Here´s some new information about the current status of MariCo, showing material not even exhibited elsewhere: Attachment:
Marico_50.png [ 67.12 KiB | Viewed 10740 times ]
In the background (on the left) the "Old Harbour" can be seen where, in older times, handling of piece goods took place. Meanwhile, the old sheds and appliances had to give way in favour of the usual "luxury renovations", except of some wimpy leftovers. Today, some fishermen as well as a local building material supplier have been taken up residence here. The "New Harbour" stands out for its new-age style storage buildings, as well as for its modernized quay (we´re writing the year 1966). At the moment, some thoughts are given to designation of first areas for container handling. In the small lower inner harbour, the local fish company has been arranged for itself. This is also the moorage for the two company-owned fishing boats, while supplying private fishermen find their place farther away, at the outer mole. Meanwhile, even larger trawlers want to land their fish over here (just now, a modern freezing trawler of the "Tropik" type (Volkswerft Stralsund) has moored at the southern side of the new quay), but with no mooring space within easy reach, here too an expansion is envisaged. Although, by the negative attitude of the "Park protectors", plans of a southward expansion are currently in a particularly unpopular phase. Anyhow, beyond the outer mole, sailing clubs for dentists (bottom) and lawyers (top) have been established, while the simple folk is offered a sea trip once a week in summer with SS "Hertha". regards Michael

Yes, brilliant work... artistic when at its best... However, I'm also looking a bit to the lower part of the screen with the train running... That catenary, not sure I've seen it before...

im a huge fan of Marico, specially with the new ISR-styled dock pieces and FISH they make an extremely great combination (no offence but i prefer FISH as my default boatset) i love the work you do MB on the marico as it offers extreme good objects to play with

Excellent ... essay! Fish versus mb's ships? Fish is 3D, mb's are pixel art. I prefer FISH only because I favor a more realistic scale (mb's are more down scaled). But as a piece of art mb you are beyond comparison. A point for improvement: The roof on those 'new-age style storage buildings' doesn't need to follow the same repetitive pattern.

Well, original NewShips gets 10 years old now, in fact it was the very first newGRF ever, but the ships from NewShips XL (still to be released) are very much better graphics-wise. Probably the best TTD ships you´ll ever see. Scale is always a problem in TTD. It´s totally impossible to make ships more up to scale, especially in connection with trains or train loads (containers). And just in an attempt to get them "a bit" larger, you´ll get massive glitches in return. So, that´s a no-go for "real" ships in-game. OTOH, ships *as objects* might be more to scale, simply because they won´t glitch. Quote: A point for improvement: The roof on those 'new-age style storage buildings' doesn't need to follow the same repetitive pattern. It is always the same shed/roof, only with some extensions for front/back. Most of the objects/tiles in MariCo are "composed" from sub-sprites. However, I could even supply four different roof tiles (for this shed, as well as for others) and use them randomly. We´ll see. regards Michael

I have to say that I really do like the new look of those ships... Soo similar to those real things out there, and you've added a detail which I find very clever; the bulbous bow...

Not much new, because of a feature freeze to prepare for release. I´ve only added some minor things (guess which ones ..) and will probably add some more ships, but now it´s the time for figuring out all the small bugs, quite a tedious work. regards Michael

A bit out of place (maybe your port is suffering from silting?) , but still very nice!
